Dragon's Dogma: Dark Arisen (PS3, XBOX 360, 2012)

Written by

Overview

On an unnamed world in the island duchy of Gransys, you live in the small fishing village of Cassardis, tending to your nets and looking fondly at your childhood friend, Quina. When, as is usual for these stories, something happens. In this case, the great dragon attacks, and does what dragons do...kill and destroy. Fearing for your village, you take up a weapon and charge the beast. You know full well you have no chance, but maybe you can buy time for others to get away, especially Quina. Strangely enough, you manage to actually scratch the creature, drawing it's curiosity as it pins you under its claws. For your heroism, you earn a new reward...agony, as it tears your heart out and devours it in front of you. Strangely though, you do not die. It informs you that you are now an Arisen, and if you want your heart back...you're going to have to gain much greater power, track him down, and kill him. You've heard of this occurring before; you're certainly not the first or the only one. Still that puts you in a very odd position, and thus it is the start of your journey. You quickly learn that the Arisens never journey alone as these creatures called Pawns are drawn to you and are driven to help you. Good luck!

Yuushibu Review (TV, 2014)

Overview

The Evil Overlord has been defeated, and peace is restored; huzzah! Cupcakes for everyone! Except your whole damn economy is geared towards that fight, and the Mao of Maoyuu was not the big bad to save your ass. Heroes and soldiers are now out of work, and the ones training to be such are, if they're lucky, relegated to flipping burgers. No one will buy the super expensive equipment anymore; what would be the point? So shitloads of epic gear winds up in landfills. Basically, life stinks, but it could have been worse for former aspiring Hero, Raul Chaser, who winds up at a Magic Shop called Leon. At least he has a job, and while it's not what he envisioned, the work is good, the people are good, and the pay is decent. Again not optimal, but manageable...at least until this strange person comes by asking for the manager. A manager who immediately employs this individual and put him in charge of training them. Problem is who this person winds up being and why the manager did what she did, which will cause him a universe full of problems and turn this man's worldview inside and out.

Maoyū Maō Yūsha (TV,2013)

Overview

It's time. You're at level 99. Your party has your back. However, you know what's probably going to happen to them if they come with you on this, your final assault on the big bad. So, you go alone, cutting through the defenders of the Dark Overlord like butter (or would, if there were any...very strange), and finally getting to the throne where that entity awaits you. Yet, all you find is rather friendly, well dressed, and buxom...very buxom (oh, by the Light Spirit, this lady is built like a brick shithouse with not one brick out of place) woman who seems a lot happier to see you than a Demon Lord should. "Be mine, Hero!" she commands in the manner of a pleasant request. Of course, you know better than that. Despite her loving and happy demeanor and rather...interesting...looks she is still the final obstacle to stopping the invasion of your world by the forces of evil. You refuse, prompting a rather surprising and truly puzzled response from her of, "Really?" About this point, even your dull senses are registering that 'Okay, this isn't how this usually goes. Something isn't right here.' And through the course of the conversation you're about to have, you find out there's a whole lot that's not right about everything you once believed in. Things are a lot direr than you initially thought, and simply taking her out won't change shit. The question now is: What are you going to do about it? For that, she makes you an offer you'd be a fool to refuse, and it turns out the price she has already asked of you is something you're now more than willing to part with...for there is work to be done, and it's going to take you both to see it through if your world is to have any hope of survival.
