Tokko (TV, 2006)

Written by

Overview

As I mentioned in my review of Claymore, my watch list of anime has been getting rather short over the last couple weeks, as a lot of series that I have been following have been wrapping up. So, I've spent the last week looking for new series to look into, and one of the ones that caught my interest when I saw it flash up in my RSS feeder was a little show called simply Tokko. As with a lot of shows this spring season, Tokko is an occult/horror based series, set in modern day Japan. Since I do like a good occult/horror story, I opened up the torrent and waited for it to download. The series opens on a group of hooded monks all gathered around a box that looked suspiciously like The Box from Hellraiser - and certainly, had similar effects when something went very wrong...

Claymore (TV, 2007)

Written by

Overview

Some characters just have it all. Tall. Cute. Silver eyes... and a sword that would make the CLAMP girls drool. For those that don't recognize the general description of Clare, I'm talking about Claymore this week. I picked this one up off of the Froth-Bite feed. Up until the last week, my watch list has been getting alarmingly small, with Ghost Hunt, Ah! My Goddess: Sorezore No Tsubasa, and Red Garden all having wrapped up their runs right about the same time. It was time to try out some new series, and after looking up the basics on ANN, I decided that Claymore would be a good candidate for the spring season.

Ghost Hunt (TV, 2006)

Overview

The first time that I ran across Ghost Hunt was when I saw it at Barnes & Noble, featured on the New Manga rack. I read through the first issue, though ultimately decided to put it back because I'd already collected what I wanted to pick up for the day, and didn't really have the money to buy more. Honestly, though it looked like a pretty good manga, an occult series set in the modern day world, it didn't make enough of a splash in my mind to actively remember to go back and look at. Skip ahead six months, when I see the name Ghost Hunt pop up in my RSS feeder. I remembered the manga, and decided to take a look.

Transformers Armada (TV, 2003-2004)

Written by

Overview

In a brand new continuity, for a brand new set of fans, we have the age old war of the Autobots vs. the Decepticons for the fate of their world, and possibly the universe, hanging in the balance. Gee, haven't we done this before? In this story, energy is not scarce, forcing them to search for other worlds and other sources of fuel. No, in this case, we have some sort of smart tool...or is that a subgroup of their own race...? Well, in any event these Minicons are now the primary source of contention between the two factions. Whoever controls them, will win the war...at least until Transformers: Energon. So, they are sent into space to prevent their abuse, so why is it that the Decepticons are trying to stop them, while the Autobots provide cover? You'll find this and many other poorly plotted, barely written, completely fucked story points in every single moment of every single episode of Transformers: Armada. Weren't we supposed to FIX shit like this when we got older?

Transformers Energon/Super Link (TV, 2004-2005)

Written by

Overview

After the defeat of Unicron in the abysmal Transformers: Armada, the Autobots have secretly built a base on Earth for the mining and refining of Energon. Seems the writers forgot that Transformers need to fuel up on something, considering how they treat Energon in this series. Anyway, turns out Unicron wasn't nearly as dead as they thought...nor was Super Megatron (I REFUSE to call him Galvatron. Aaron Archer has a special place in my Hell...I mean, really, Shockblast?). Unicron dispatches one of the creatures he's enslaved, Alpha Quintesson, to bring him Energon to repair himself. Never mind the big scramble for Minicons that happened last season.
