Ladies vs. Butlers (2010, TV) & Mayo Chiki (2011, TV)

Written by

We're going to be doing a little bit of a two-fer this time around. Ladies vs Butlers and from the makers of Ladies vs. Butlers, Mayo-chiki.

Overview - Ladies vs. Butlers

Akiharu Hino, a scarred and delinquent looking fellow, decides that he no longer wishes to be a burden on his uncle anymore, having lost his parents at an early age, and enrolls Hakureiryō Academy succeeding in passing the test for the House Management Department, where the school trains servants for high society. It is here through a comedy of errors he winds up meeting the two girls who will come to dominate his attention, the firey tsundere Selnia Iori Flameheart and the master troll and childhood friend (who traumatized the living fuck out of him when he was younger) Tomomi Saikyō, thus beginning the wacky hijinks of Ladies vs. Butlers.

Softcore porn. Honestly, that's about the only description you really need for this series. Oh, right, they go right from softcore to hardcore in the blu ray extras. Truthfully, for the longest time, that's about the only real review I could think of for this series. Even now, that's about the only thing on the forefront of my consciousness concerning it. I mean, if it's not catching a couple of school girl lesbians in various states of making out, all of the girls tend to run around buck ass naked.

The art style itself lends itself well to this, but is very different from most of what would be expected of Japanese girls. They're…zaftig for the most part. Even the most Japanese of them, Tomomi, is curvy and bountiful.

The overused trope of the girls throwing themselves at the guy and the guy clamming up and being scared of it is in effect here, but considering what's going on all around the main character, I have no clue if the author just thought it was funny or was stuck in the same story telling mode as 99% of every other fucking author over there. I suspect I'd have to read the light novels which have not picked up a translator as of the writing of this review. Seriously, this guy is a pretty stand up dude for the most part, but if he played his cards right, he could be banging hot chicks every night like every other red blooded male would be attempting to do, including (and especially) Tomimi and Selnia despite the blunt force trauma he'd probably receive later from Tomimi's trolling and Selnia's tsuning…not that he's not receiving it now.

Honestly, the series is legitimately funny despite the use of some over exercised tropes and a serious misunderstanding of how Islam works. No, really, there's an absolutely beautiful Middle Eastern princess in it called Aisha…and yes, you get to see her run around totally naked with the rest of them. There's just really not much in the way of what you'd call substance to it. It's really just there as lighter fare for entertainment and to get you hard if that's your goal, but truthfully, you probably won't remember much except the boobies and some of the jokes.

Overview - Mayo Chiki

From the makers of Ladies vs. Butlers, this story revolves around Kinjirō Sakamachi, a 17 year old high school boy who suffers from gynophobia. The gynophobia sickness makes his nose bleed every time he has physical contact with a female. While using the bathroom he accidentally discovers that the popular and handsome butler Subaru Konoe is in fact a girl. Now that Kinjirō knows about Subaru's secret, he must work together with Subaru and her sadistic mistress, Kanade, to protect Subaru’s secret from being discovered.

You see that description up there that I practically copy pasted from Wikipedia? Yeah? It's complete and total 100% BULLSHIT!

You wanna know what this series is really about? This series is about Kanade Suzutsuki and how she is going to fuck with the characters today. The rest is just a backdrop for how she's going to fuck with them. It's an excuse to bring Kinjirō to her as a new toy so she can play him, Subaru, and even herself off of each other. Originally I wasn't even going to watch this series, but given that I was entertained by Ladies vs. Butlers, which is reviewed above, I figured I'd give this one a go. Admittedly, I was rather bored until I saw Kanade, and holy fuck, this girl had the most awesome crazy eyes I'd seen in a long time. They tend to soften as time goes on, but there at the beginning, she not only shows the audience she's just a bit mental, she proves it in what she does with both Kinjirō and Subaru.

And she doesn't stop there, oh no, she got the series' resident tsundere (and honestly just not a very good person at first) Masamune Usami on her knees and barking like a dog at one point. That'll teach the bitch not to fuck with Kanade, heh. Seriously the oujo (as we tend to nickname Kanade) can get anyone to do just about anything just by talking to them, and she WILL fuck with them without mercy.

I'm fairly certainly this is an exercise in harem building…that'd be HER harem, by the way…consisting of Subaru and Kinjirō at present. Honestly, if either one of them propositioned her for sex, her response at this point would be, "Yes, please!" and she takes great pains to make sure they know it. Given it was from the creators of Ladies vs. Butlers, there was really no nudity to speak of, which was surprising since they showed they had absolutely no fear of nudity or sex in general, but given they were likely working off the original light novels, well…they did what they did fairly well. What's fucking scary is how damn good looking Kanade is; I mean truly legitimately GOOD LOOKING, as opposed to the porn fuel of the girls of Ladies vs Butlers. While not rare per se, it is uncommon in anime to see a character design that well put together, and in that respect, all the girls are shaped differently (as they would be in real life) to further emphasize just how fine she really is (and that she knows it). This is not to say that the rest of the girls are unattractive (Nakuru Narumi, for example, is an exception in that she would be right at home in Ladies vs Butlers considering her looks), even Subaru occasionally shows she's got the goods when out of her butler outfit, but Kanade is in a class all her own.

In case you can't tell, if it wasn't for Kanade, this series would be absolutely worthless; she carries it with pure and utter effortlessness that honestly surprised and entertained me. Truly, I'd love to see more of this character, and I'd love to see it the moment she finally gets to enjoy what she's working so hard to achieve…I think that would be a moment that would make this series truly memorable, rather than just…noteable.
