The Fanime 2014 Report Is Up

After a few weeks of procrastination, we finally have the Fanime 2014 Report up. What to say about this year? A lot better than last year, let me tell you. Though I think we need a lot more participation from our fellow journalists than simply walking around and taking pictures, like providing some feedback and participating a bit more in the events other than just showing up thinking everything will be ready for whatever...we need to get in there and take a bit more of a part of production so we can all do our jobs better and not step on each other's toes. Honestly, though, that's more of a personal anecdote. Read on to see more about what the convention was about and how well they did this year.

Fanime 2014 Report

So here we are, eight years since the first time I've been to Fanime, and six, I believe, that I've worked with them as a member of the press for Dragon's Anime and TFA Cosplay. Some things have changed and some have remained the same. The location, for one, has remained constant, though the use of that location, as well as the construction of the location itself has altered over time. Most of the main events have remained constant, though in the cases of the Music Fest, have widened considerably in scope. Stage Zero remains one of those basically ongoing events that one can just stop in the middle of their traversals through Fanime and take in, but the presentations have been getting more and more formalized with Singing, Maid Para Para Dancing, and the like in addition to the game shows and whatnot that have been there staple of the location. Opening Ceremonies has grown from Stage Zero to encompassing the entire entrance to the convention center, and sometimes even outside depending on what sort of things they will have going on. All in all, it's still a convention by the fans, for the fans, but it is growing, and while the location is growing with it, I've noted in my last few reports that I'm curious as to when true saturation point there in down town San Jose will occur, and what that will mean for the convention. Still, that's just idle speculation at present; it's time to get to the main event.

I know, I've been a little bit late with this one. I'll admit, I've been mulling a lot of things over in my mind over it, and I've decided this year there will be no Youtube video of the Masquerade for Fanime. Their rights filter is far too restrictive anymore to make it a viable platform for these variety shows. Thus, it may be, in the future, that we wind up on Vimeo or something, but Youtube's days are numbered.

Until we have a streaming solution, we'll use torrents, and here's the torrent for the Fanime 2014 Masquerade as hosted by Nyaa Torrents...or you can click the little attachment link below if you're reading this news item on its own page here at Dragon's Anime.

To one and all, enjoy! It was a fun year!

And now for the second set of pics, this time brought to you by Mayhem. In this set we have his normal Fanime 2014 cosplay pics, his pics taken at the Cosplay Bikini Contest, and his Masquerade backstage pics.

As is usual, you can message me or Mayhem to get a larger and or raw version of your cosplay if you see it up there. Enjoy!

Sac Anime Summer 2013 Report Up

And finally, I get the Sac Anime Summer 2013 report done. With the small convention mentality, but the larger growing numbers, this one is at what many would term the sweet spot for pure enjoyment. I had a good time anyway, but why take just my statement here at face value? Check out my report for more detail.

Sac Anime Summer 2013 Report

Hmm…Sac Anime.

Third year I’ve been to this convention, and the first at their new location of the Sacramento Convention Center. It’s a far larger location situated in downtown Sacramento, and surrounded by all the amenities of a down town area, such as hotels, quickie marts, and food…though that last one wasn’t as important this year as I’ll describe in a bit.

As has oddly become custom, though differently arriving in this case, I wound up flying in on Friday, Day 1. Original plan was to take the train, but I’m not spending thirteen fucking hours in transit when I could drive there in eight. Wound up taking Super Shuttle to the Quality Inn situated about a block away from the convention center down town, where Mayhem and co were already set up.

Sac Anime Summer 2013 Movies Up

I actually hope to get the Sac Anime Summer 2013 report done very soon. I've been dragging ass since I really wasn't too sure how I'd like to proceed with the Masquerade video, but I'll go ahead and release it in this fashion...for now. In any event, here are the High Def, non censored, versions of the Sac Anime 2013 Summer Movies as hosted by Nyaa Torrents. These include: the Maquerade, most of the Akai Sky concert (since the Sac Anime staff would not let press in to set up early), the Steven Skyler mini concert, and the Eyeshine concert.

For those that simply want to watch the events, I invite you to head over to our Youtube Page and check them out there. I do warn you though, due to King Records (Japan) basically putting a blanket world wide blackout on any video with what they consider their property, I had to remove the audio for one of the skits. Until such time as sanity either returns or is driven by knifepoint back into law in general, this is how it shall remain on a public site like Youtube.

Enjoy, one and all!

Oh yeah, and if anyone can get me in touch with someone with the Elizabeth Stevenson memorial video, so that I may include it within the Masquerade video proper (with all credit given), I'd be most appreciative.

Anime Expo 2013 Report Now Up

Well folks, it's been a long time coming, but I finally have the Anime Expo 2013 report available.

What's to summarize about this one? How about this is one of the best Anime Expos in recent memory, and probably the best convention I've been to for several years. Was it the best AX ever? Well, check the report and judge for yourself. As for me, let it just be said, I was most entertained and I got what I wanted and then some out of it. If not the best, it was certainly successful.

Final Anime Expo 2013 Pics Up

I appear to have hit a bug in gallery 3. Until it can be figured out, I'll have to live with the current state of affairs. This means that the current Anime Expo 2013 sub gallery has been moved to another Anime Expo gallery, and this is where I shall place the pics for Anime Expo for the foreseeable future, or until the problem is corrected. With that in mind, head on over to the new Anime Expo 2013-20xx gallery where you'll find the pics for 2013. Among them you'll see pics from our newest member, KamuiX707, our old friend, Mayhem, and several new events added.

I have added the pics for the Burlesque show, but until I can figure out some sort of age verification system on that gallery, I'll keep them unavailable for the present time.

As is usual, if you're one of the cosplayers and want a larger/unedited JPG and/or RAW version of your cosplay, let me know, and I'll make the available. Have fun!
