Spice and Wolf Review

Hey, another review. This time it's a look at the Spice and Wolf anime series, one of the best (if not the best) series of the winter season. What happens when you take a shy, innocent little forest creature and take her out into the big world? I got no freaking clue, because Horo's not shy, and she's sure as hell not innocent. Grab some popcorn, sit back, and take a look at the review, will you? Already seen the series? So talk about it! CLOSED

Welcome to the NHK & EVA Rebuild

So here we have one of the most interesting manga I've read in awhile, Welcome to the NHK, which seems to be all about the insanity that has infected damn near every walk of life in one way or another both blatently and subtly.

There's also a discussion thread over there on the message boards if you want to take a gander at that. CLOSED

Thoughts on Evangelion: Rebuild

January 23rd, I spotted this file on Tokyo Toshokan and downloaded it. While it is obviously a camrip, with sound miked from a theater, it is adequate to give a good idea of what they’ve done.

I watched the entire series in it’s original releases; fansubbed, DVD releases both subbed and dubbed, and the authorized US Broadcast on KTEH, so I have some ideas about the original content. This video is the first “movie” and covers the first arc of the TV series.

WoU - Day 4: Devil May Cry

Day four - barely - and we have a review of Devil May Cry, the anime we all knew was coming sooner or later.  Dante is back, and so are Lady and Trish in this heavy-metal, guns-blazing, sword-slashing series.  I sure hope the devils never watch this series - if they ever knew that all it takes to leave Dante helpless is...  Well, read the review, and watch the series, and you'll see what I mean.  And by the way... for those that are wondering, yes... Trish is still poured into that leather, lightning split bodice.

And, for my cowriter...  Maybe the anime is a bit weak... But not as weak, as, say... falling head over heels for Rainbow Bright?  >:o)

WoU - Day 3: Murder Princess

It's day three of the Week of Updates, and as long as we're talking royalty, let's take a look at Murder Princess, shall we?  What happens when you cross a polite, upstanding, soft spoken young princess with one of the most feared bounty hunters in the world?  Well, let's put it this way folks... that crimson on the throne ain't lacquer work.  Join Princess Anita Forland, and the bounty hunter Falis in a little grim fairy tale.  Oh, and don't upset the chibi robotic maids... they like to make things go boom.

Murder Princess (OVA, 2007)

Let's take the time to tell a little fairy tale, shall we? Once upon a time, there was a little castle in a little country, which was under attack by an evil scientist with two cute, pint-sized robots. The country's princess was able to escape, though, and went running away into the forest at the insistence of her guardians. The princess ran as hard as she could, until she came upon something wicked in the forest, but a hero arrived just in time to save her... or she would have, if the princess hadn't panicked and stumbled, knocking them both off a cliff. The end. Well, almost, anyway, because it wouldn't be much of a series if Murder Princess had ended in the first fifteen minutes.

Seto no Hanayome Review

This week it's a journey under the sea to visit Seto no Hanayome, a series with a main character that is absolutely guaranteed to wake up swimming with the fishies some day.  Mermaids, sea crabs with assault shells, and fathers who don't know when to let go of their daughters... what could possibly go wrong?  Read the review to find out, folks... don't forget your cement overshoes.  King Triton was never THIS overprotective.

Claymore and Tokko Reviews

So what do you get when you take a girl with a sword big enough to make the Rayearth characters jealous, add in a young man with the sort of balls most anime males wish they had, and throw in some critters that like to snack on humans? I'm taking a look at Claymore this week, a series that has set about answering just that question, and is doing a damned nice job of it thus far. It's a surprisingly deep take on a story that might seem, on the face of it, to have been done before, and we're only three episodes in.

Ghost Hunt Reviewed

I've added a new review for Ghost Hunt, the new TV series based on the manga of the same name by Shiho Inada. Join Mai and Naru as they look for answers in the world of the paranormal with the help of other exorcists of varying faiths and religions. It's a fun series folks, take a look at the review to see if its something you'd like. There's a discussion thread all setup here, too. CLOSED
