Back from ACEN, and noting I'm not 21 anymore...and can't party all night and shrug it off like I used to. Regardless, we have pics for you to fawn over. As is usual, if you're one of the cosplayers and see your pic in there, drop me a line if you wish, and I'll make them available.
Hey look, just in time for the end of Fanime, I have the ACEN report finally up.
In it, you will see our trials and tribulations as ACEN takes a beating and keeps on coming, and though bruised and bloodied managed to make itself a fairly positive experience despite all that happened. So go ahead, and click on the above link, wherein you may share in some of the adventure my family and friends embarked on, perhaps you too shall be entertained as we were.
So, how did you all like that Masquerade?
Too soon? Heh, don't worry. Everyone gets their ass kicked on their 15th birthday. Just ask Fanime.
Well folks, I'm getting better about this. Really, I am! It's only the day after the convention, and yet, I have all the pics for it up! See, they're right here! You've got to believe me!
It was a fantastic year for costumes at ACEN, and even with the unfortunate cancellation of the Masquerade due to the fire alarm, it was a very fun year all around. As always, if you want a larger, unedited, and/or RAW version of your pic if you're one of the cosplayers, just email me, and I'll make it available.
First up, as we all know there's been a massive earthquake and tsunami, not the blue haired adorable kind, over in Japan. If you wish to donate to the Red Cross fund, please click here.
We break from our current level of slacking to bring to you a review of the wonderful little manga from manga-ka Kou Fumizuki, Umi No Misaki. A whimsical little slice of life manga with a surprisingly engaging story line and wonderful little characters that one can't help but want to see what they turn into. It also explores concepts of faith and divinity and how it relates to both those who are gods and those who believe in them.
So, back from Anime Expo and finally got some information on one of the most screwed up technical problems I've ever seen in video editing software of any sort. Simple little problems like...oh...I dunno...ADDING A WATERMARK?! Anyway, after going through several solutions which plain flat out just don't work (not working on linux...gee, that sounds familiar) I find myself back at Avidemux using a plugin designed to work with wine, avisynth. A powerful scripting tool to be sure, but being a scripting tool with a hacked in plugin solution, getting the right verbage down for certain plugins is...harrowing to say the least.
Wow, I'm getting faster. Maybe I can get the Fanime report out sometime soon too? In any event, here's the Anime Central 2010 Writeup that I've been planning to get done for awhile now.
As it was in the past two years, I've got nothing but good things to say about the convention. If you're ever looking for a good time, this is the place to go (though maybe they should think about adding a day), I guarantee, so I hope I did the experience justice. But don't just take my word for it, click on that link up there and check out my full thoughts on it which includes some news items for those looking for the videos from this year's convention.
It started when I was being driven to the airport in some rent-a-shuttle you booked for a flight at early hours that should be outlawed or at least protested on a weekly basis, while feeling the effects of a cold just starting that I hoped in vain to whatever god I worshiped isn't a cold just starting make that dry scratchy feeling in the back of my throat. Bus driver was blessedly silent as I alternated between staying awake, silent religious supplication, and waiting for the drugs I took before I boarded to kick in. There's also this vague nagging suspicion that in my haste to get everything together, coupled with the pain I'm presently feeling, that I forgot something maddeningly important. Quick mental checks are not possible; haven't had anyone hit my turbo button yet by mainlining me with a Monster energy drink or even some of the finest brewed Columbian lighter fluid. What items I have high pri on my list, that which makes what I do possible at conventions; I do manage to confirm are in my possession before hitting San Diego International.
