The Cake Is NOT a Lie

So, if you had a gun that could shoot holes in space that would allow you to step in one and out the other, where would you go? Myself, I think I’d find my way into a nice, quiet spot where I could just kick back, relax, and enjoy some nice cake. Not another care in the world, unlike Chell, who’s just woken up from a long nap only to find herself at the Portal 2 an entirely new adventure.

…Yeah, I’m sorry, that’s the best I could come up with.

Tokyo Pop To Close Up Shop

In the current economy, niche industries and entertainment are the first to die. Looks like manga was no exception given the recent announcement of Tokyo Pop closing its US branch, though I expect the German branch to follow.

Anime Conji 2011 Convention Roundup

I hope you all appreciate this one. Thanks to the power of my new PC, solving some serious technical issues that plague me on a yearly basis, and having some time to write, I give you everything from Anime Conji's 2011 Convention.

Anime Conji 2011

The one thing that has been neglected for the longest time is an an anime convention here in sunny San Diego. I mean, LA has several, including the biggest: Anime Expo, and there are several up north in most of their cities. This is mostly due to the fact that down here we have this rather wonderful little event called Comic Con. It actually has much of the same things that even the larger anime conventions do, coupled with the inclusion of the general sci fi, fantasy, comics, movies, and various other mediums that evoke a certain level of fandom. Problem is that it is f'n huge. So much so that it has to limit attendance (something Anime Expo would do well to emulate), and in recent years, tickets for all days have been sold out several months in advance. We here at Dragon's Anime don't even try to cover that one (Hell, I haven't even GONE to that one in a couple years) due to the logistics involved, even with one of its members, and several friends, actually in the same city.

Well, here's the first of the videos for Anime Conji 2011: The Last Comic Standing event. First year for it, and what a way to start it off. Convention attendees just getting up and making fun of all the stuff we know and love, because they know and love it too and we all get these jokes. It also helps that it was late at night, and alcohol was permitted...this wasn't for the kiddies folks, heh. But hey, download it and see for yourself, or if you were there, share the memories with someone else.

Anime Conji 2011 Pics Are Up

Well, spent two days at Anime Conji and acquired some great pics and some good video, which I'll get that up as soon as I can. Fun convention, and I wish I could have stayed for the full three days, but just coming off a really large evolution at work, there were things that needed to be done in the old personal life, up to and including real sleep, heh. So without further ado, go ahead and just click here to go directly there.

As always if you're one of the cosplayers and want a full size and/or raw version, email me, and I'll make them available.

I Grow...Weary...My Goddess.

Recently, and to little fanfare, I found on your usual torrent sites, while looking for episodes of Magical Girl Homicide (otherwise known as Puella Magi Madoka Magica, heh, heh, heh) a torrent of something called Ah! My Goddess! Together Forever. After vowing eternal revenge to the coiners of that name for putting that Rick Astley song in my head, and wondering how long it was going to take someone to put the scenes of this OVA into a music video to that song, I, of course, clicked download.

I admit, I found myself looking forward to spending time with my friends in Ah! My Goddess! again. Everyone seemed to be reprising their roles again, the stars of which, Aya Hisakawa as Skuld, Yumi Tôma as Urd, and of course, Masami Kikuchi as Keiichi, and the lovely Kikuko Inoue as Belldandy. Each one of these voice actors have given life to the characters they portray in such an iconic manner, especially Belldandy, that they have been tapped for their voices in just about every iteration of the animated series that has been produced, except ironically Belldandy for the first 13 episodes of The Adventures of the Minigoddesses who was there voiced by Akemi Okamura due to Kikuko Inoue's pregnancy.

Umi No Misaki Review And Other News

We break from our current level of slacking to bring to you a review of the wonderful little manga from manga-ka Kou Fumizuki, Umi No Misaki. A whimsical little slice of life manga with a surprisingly engaging story line and wonderful little characters that one can't help but want to see what they turn into. It also explores concepts of faith and divinity and how it relates to both those who are gods and those who believe in them.

Anime Expo Idol 2010 Torrent Now Up

This may be my last release for this year; I'm uncertain if I'll release the other two in their uncompleted form, but I'll debate the merits of that with myself later. Still, why taint what is truly a most awesome release with such bad news? So, may I present this year's historic Anime Expo Idol competition. Historic in that what I often said could not possibly come to pass, did, in fact, come to pass: A guy won both the voice acting portion AND the singing portion. While last year we had the first ever guy to win the contest with the voice acting competition in what was a stand up performance of a part of Rurouni Kenshin (which earned him an actual standing ovation from the audience), this year we had a gentleman get up and obliterate everyone by singing the living Hell out of Nokia plaza. I could tell the guy who usually picks girls was about to do it again this year, but I think he could feel his likely doom approaching from that man's newly acquired fangirls if he dared do so. Even so, it was damn well earned, but you'll see shortly.

Thanks again to Nyaa Torrents for being our tracker.
