Bandai Entertainment Changing Focus

Hope everyone had a good Christmas and New Years. The new one we got is looking pretty screwed up as far as domestic anime goes.

In a move that would probably surprise no one, given their closing of their e-commerce site earlier in December, Bandai has gone and done a Geneon, and moved to be more of a distribution type company, thus pretty much sealing its doom as Geneon did back in '07. Given this move, that pretty much makes Viz, Funimation, and ADV/Sentai Filmworks the only big players left on the block. I don't know if any of the other bit players are going to be able to get any real traction in today's market, but I hope so.

And I was looking forward to Gosick too.

You Must Be My Lucky Star!

If I were a decent man, I'd apologize for the song I quoted for this news item. As I'm not anywhere near decent, we can move past that as you writhe on the floor in hatred and agony. Failing that, you could always just click right here to move yourself on to today's review of the anime, Lucky Star.

Lucky Star (Anime,2007)

Lucky Star is a manga and anime series which focuses on the lives of several girls who live in Kasukabe in Saitama Prefecture of Japan and attend a High School called Ryoo. The story typically focuses on its main character Konata Izumi as she interacts with her friends, making observations and conversation about their various interests, each other, and the world around them. Given that Kontata is what can only be classified as an Otaku Surrogate and a not so closet a pervert, these activities, conversations, and observations can get really fun indeed.

ASOS Brigade!

As part of the viral or gorilla marketing scheme to announce the distribution by Bandai and release of The Melancholy of Haruhi Suzumiya (no homepage yet, that I can find) by Kodokawa here in the states on May 29th, there has been a live action production of something referred to as the ASOS Brigade. At present these consist of two hilarious skits in a mixture of English and Japanese language which have to seen to be believed. The scheme also includes a MySpace page for those who are into that sort of thing.

Happy viewing!

And yes, that is indeed, as she herself says, the Pink Space Ranger, Patricia Ja Lee. Now all we need is for her and Johnny Young Bosch to get a part together, just for the shear irony of it all.

First Part of Move Complete

Damn, we're just rocking on with the updates today!

Depending on how this goes, I'll either have the move complete by tomorrow...or after the beginning of next year. Still in any event, I've uploaded four of the reviews for your viewing pleasure: Scrapped Princess, Tenjho Tenge, Transformers: Armada, and Transformers: Energon.

Akane Maniax (OVA, 2005)

After the end of Kimi Ga Nozomu Eien, Akane is left in a rather bad mental funk she can't seem to shake. This is confused further by the arrival of Gouda Jouji, who professes his love for her, and it is through his unique perspective much of how he tries to bring her out of her pain and win her that this story is told.

Melancholy of Haruhi Suzumiya Review

I've added a preview of the Melancholy of Haruhi Suzumiya, by Nagaro Tanigawa, produced by Kyoto Animation. I think that fans of FLCL will love the madness of MoHS, and those that enjoy satire will too. Just remember... what Suzumiya-san wants, Suzumiya-san gets... no matter who she has to blackmail!
