Highschool DxD (TV, 2012)

Gather round, my loyal minions and let me tell thee of a tale. A tale of lechery and debauchery. A tale of demons and angels. A tale of a man named Issei Hyodo who wanted a harem, but barring that, a hot girlfriend who put out constantly would do. Woe be it to this man when he finally received his wish, and found that when things seem too good to be true, they almost always are. Suffering from a sucking chest wound inflicted by she whom he thought was to finally fulfill his wish, a vision of crimson loveliness and sublime perfection, a demon to some, but an angel to others, Rias Gremory, she who is sister to the devil himself, comes to his aid. The price for his salvation was his soul, his humanity, and and what could be centuries of service to this blood red vision of beauty. Still, all was not lost, for as he found, he was bound to a dragon of near infinite power, which may be his should he gain the strength to harness it, and his captivity was sweet indeed with his mistress loving him as one would their lover. And should he prove himself worthy, he might even attain a peerage within the ranks of the demons allowing him the chance to amass his harem dreams of youth, though he might find that he already has something far better. All is not sweetness and light, for there is the matter of what killed him. Strange things are moving behind the scenes in the world of gods, demons, and men; and it will be up to him and his fellows to protect each other and their mistress from those that would tear them apart and do them harm.

And for your viewing pleasure, a bit of guilty pleasure in the smaller reviews of the ecchi anime series Ladies vs. Butlers and the honestly funny bit of trolling commedy called Mayo Chiki!

These series really aren't much in the way of substance, hence the combined and shortened reviews, but are still quite entertaining and good for a look through if you don't really want to think about anything too hard. But check out the review if you need further convincing, just leave your sanity at the door.

A Pitiful And Beastly Anime

Been meaning to warn people away do a review on Jyu-Oh-Sei, or Planet of the Beast King, for quite some time now. If I felt any real duty to the whole of humanity (outside of conquering it...oh wait, did I say that out loud?) I'd probably say that it was my obligation to inform people before they considered watching it that they were never going to get those six hours back. With its recent introduction to Netflix, many more are going to need this warning. If you don't believe me, click that link in the first paragraph and know what I suffered through, and make your decision accordingly.

As for me, I need another beer after the pure Hell I suffered through.

Jyu Oh Sei (TV, 2006)

It's a slump season, fuck all interesting is playing, I'm drinking a beer, and watching anime I missed out on when it first came out.

Yeah, it's time for another round of "Anime to Avoid." Today's fine example of how to fail at life is a piece of whale shit known as Jyu-Oh-Sei, otherwise known as Planet of the Beast King.

Hang on, I need another beer. You should get one too if you're going to slog through this wretched pile of rotting sewage with me.

Kaze no Stigma (TV, 2007)

There once was a young boy by the name of Kazuma Kannagi who was found to have none of the hereditary power of Ejutsu, the ability to control fire, that his entire family wielded. This became a source of constant ridicule, petty (and not so petty) bullying, and constant shame. Eventually this came to its culmination one day in his exile at a very young age after his defeat by a distant relative, Ayano Kannagi, in the bout to decide who would be the heir to the family and wield its family sword, Enraiha and all the power it contained. Weak, broken, and betrayed by those who were supposed to love and care for him, he left to make his own way in the world or die. Several years later he has come home, now going by the name Kazuma Yagami, with a new power, the Fujutsushi; the power to control air. And he is very VERY pissed off.

Seitokai Yakuindomo (TV, 2010)

The Ousai Student Council... Suzu's down in the bottom right corner somewhere. I've got a question for the guys out there in the audience. If you, as a teenager, had the chance to attend a formerly all-girls school that was opening its first year of co-education as one of the first – and very, very few – boys, would you jump at the chance? I mean, just think about it… a school with a ratio of, say, 7:1 girls to boys. Can't you just imagine the possibilities? Really, what's the worst that could happen? Just as a… cherry… on top, the campus could even be closer than your current school. Wouldn't that be great? All those beautiful, maturing teenage girls all around you… …If you have any sense, you're running screaming right about now. Unfortunately for Tsuda Takatoshi, he didn't have any sense.

Durarara! (TV, 2010)

Every great relationship needs its glue to hold it together. I was actually looking forward to the Winter 2009 season before it started. Omamori Himari, Ookamikakushi, and Dance in the Vampire Bund all looked like likely targets for watching, and there was Halo Legends and the anime adaptation of the game adaptation of Dante's Inferno to look forward to as well. All in all, things were shaping up pretty well; I just needed one more title to round out my list of series. I settled on an oddly named series that looked to have pretty good animation from its promo video called Durarara!!.

Yeah, ok, so I couldn't think up anything more clever to use for a front page post announcing a Durarara!! review, they can't all be winners. C'mon down to Ikebukuro and meet some of the locals, they'll be glad to have you… if they don't throw a vending machine at you or shave you with a pocket knife or slice you up with a shadow scythe or…
