So...how about those lines? What, too soon? Shit, I've been putting off this report for a while, I figured...y'know...maybe we could have all...yeah, who am I kidding?
If you weren't at Fanime 2013 you MIGHT be wondering what I'm on about. Honestly...shit, we'll just start this by getting it out of the way right now. Fanime 2013 was a much nicer version of Anime Expo 2007. Yes, I went there. I mean, really, there's just no other way to describe this year's Fanime. It was a mess of long lines, crowded areas, and technical difficulties that would have made the place an absolute Hell to be at had ALL (there was one notable incident I'll describe later) the convention and grounds staff been as dysfunctional and downright evil as the ones that were at AX 2007. Fortunately this was not the case, so we should probably count our blessings, because that would have been the spark of that would have set off all sorts of fun fires.
Ah, Anime Conji...good times. Anime Conji is currently the only purely anime convention here in San Diego and this was its fourth year running. This was also the third year at the Town and Country Hotel and the second for using its convention center; the first year being spent at the Double Tree hotel, and crowded that poor place out. So far, the Town and Country has provided plenty of room for the convention and its attendees; in fact this year I would go so far as to say it was almost too much room.
I had a whole review planned out for our triumphant return. It was going to be equal parts glowing praise and blood soaked slaughter...well, maybe mostly blood soaked slaughter...can't believe they dropped the ball on Mao Yuusha's anime that badly. Then THIS came along...good lord, hasn't this shit burned itself out yet? Darkest before the dawn, remember that kiddies. Buckle up, we're going for a ride down this fucking rabbit hole of Cosplay =/= Consent.
So this year, I once again found myself at Sac Anime Summer 2012 for the Labor Day weekend, August 31st to September 2nd of 2012, due to a combination of ‘what if’ style planning and air fares being near on nonexistent. It helped that I really didn’t have much planned that weekend, so off it was to Sacramento.
As before, we didn’t hit up the first day due to a lot of factors, that day was near on totally shot, but not a complete loss, having managed to have dinner with Gensao and meet an old friend from the Navy I’d not seen in well on seven years now. Even so, if I ever do this again, I’ll need to plan that out a little bit better. Like flying directly into Sacramento...that’d have solved a lot of problems.
Huh? What? Oh, right. Time for a report. You'll have to excuse the mess…yeah okay, the beer and various other alcoholic drinks scattered about, but I was at least rather mellow this whole convention. Even when they were doing what AX does best and not speaking to each other. At all. I kinda find it amusing that one has to stay a little bit 'happy' just to get through this convention, and that this year, being AX's 21st birthday, they tried to keep us 'happy' with various places to get alcohol, but I'm getting ahead of myself.
