Well, it's been awhile coming, but I now have torrent, hosted by Nyaa, of all the Anime Expo 2015 movies that were recorded for those who like their files on their computer in HD. It should be noted that the Midnight Shinigami concert and Myth - Legends of Burlesque and Magic were encoded in x265, so you'll need a player capable of that. VLC can do this job with the right plugin, for example. You can get it by clicking this link here. Enjoy!
So, somehow or another I managed to compile this report of Anime Expo 2015. I honestly wish it'd had been nothing but fun fun fun, and that I could relegate to you the awsomeness that I was part of, but I can't really do that this time around. That being said, there WAS fun, and it was damn good fun. Still, there was some shit that went down behind the scenes of this one, and if you want to know, click on that link up there to check it out. As for me, I still need to get those torrents up. Enjoy!
I find it to be a most interesting feeling to know when I'm almost done with something. I can't really describe it to anyone, but a sinking anticipation is the best I can give. Like a countdown to something unknowable that you cannot stop...and at some point, you're not even sure you want to. Anime Expo is rapidly reaching the point where it may have to be put paid, or it may have already reached that point...the next few months will tell me that. I get ahead of myself, however.
As it has been the past few years, and for the next five years at least (since they've signed a new contract with the venue), Anime Expo has taken place at the Los Angeles Convention Center and surrounding venues. This year it played host to over 90,000 attendees, which is an unreal amount of people, and one I truly believe if trying to get through its dealer's hall was any indication of those numbers. I'm reminded a great deal of the final couple of years I went to Comic Con, what I experienced there, and how it felt. Very much like now, to be honest. Up to and including the way you could almost not even move in some places there were so many.
Finally getting some of these movies encoded. I'll need to upgrade big time when I get a 4K camera. In any event, check out this year's Myth: Legends of Burlesque and Magic; performed at Anime Expo. For the third year it came, and for the second year was its own Main Event, and a well deserved designation it is. Don't know that I've ever seen anything gain popularity quite so fast or so deservedly as this show. But why take my word for it, when you can click 'Read More' and see it for yourself on our Vimeo channel? For those of you that like your really high quality digital copies of videos on your hard drives, don't worry...as soon as I get all this year's videos encoded, I'll do what I've done for the past few years, and load them all up as one big batch. Until then...enjoy!
You guys ready for a good time? I'll tell you this much, it doesn't get much better than this event; equalling, if not surpassing other main events you'll see here in just its third year. I'm talking about MYTH: Legends of Burlesque and Magic. Featuring the talents of:
I've procrastinated long enough on this one. At great personal expense in the lack of sleep department, I have finally completed one of my longest reports, the one for Anime Expo 2014. In it I talk about the convention, its main events, and its triumphs and tragedies. I share news, photo, and video all done with my own personal brand of Gonzo Journalism which is not for the faint of heart, but is at least truthful...from my own perspective anyway. But why waste time? Why not head over there now and take a look? I'm sure you can find some useful tidbits in there and perhaps a bit of entertainment...or so I hope. Enjoy!
Have I really been doing this for around 15 years? Well, aside from the year 2000, yes, yes I have. In all this time I've typically gone to this convention with the same group of people; even going so far as to increase our participation in the conventions we go to by going as press under the auspices of Dragon's Anime and TFA Cosplay. That didn't happen this year. No, this year I was on my own in regards to being press as the core group couldn't make it this year due to various factors. Still, I wasn't totally on my own, as there were others who we've known for all this time who graciously invited me to room with them this year. This worked out a lot better than I'd have thought, because even though the Vagabond Inn up the road from the convention center was more expensive than we'd wanted, they had bunk beds of all things, which were far more comfortable than the Coleman Cots we're usually used to using when we stuff ourselves into these rooms. I'll have to admit though, this year put it into perspective on just how much I've come to rely on Gensao, Pio, and Mayhem for all sorts of things little and big when it comes to covering this convention as press which caused me to miss out on a lot more than I'd have liked. This doesn't count all the other disasters outside of everyone's control that wound up occurring.
Truly I have been a terrible terrible procrastinator when it comes to these movies. I have no excuses, but I do now have said movies torrents available. So without further ado, here are the Anime Expo 2014's Masquerade, Danny Choo Press Panel, and Myth: Legends of Burlesque and Magic movies that I managed to record this year as hosted by Nyaa Torrents or you can click the attachment to this news item below. I thought it was a good year for all of the above, and I only wish I could have done more were it not for circumstances out of my control unfortunately. Still, what I did get I hope does not disappoint. And aside from certain countries, Youtube's content management did not unilaterally make the videos unwatchable this time, and so you can watch them there too.
Normally I'd wait until I had all the videos up, but given how damn good this show was, I figured I'd release it as soon as it was done uploading and transcoding. So, without further ado, check out this year's Myth: Legends of Burlesque and Magic at Anime Expo.
I'll do a more indepth review with the convention report, but I will say this is probably the best show at Anime Expo, surpassing even the Masquerade and AMV Contest in just straight entertainment value. Not just by what is presented but by how much care and love for both the artwork of the magic and burlesques, but also in how much care and love they have when they entertain the audience, which is something a lot of us don't see very often in too many things anymore. Damn good show by all, and I look forward to next year's.
In what I can only commit seppuku for, since these pics are in that risque category I was talking about, and we now have an adult check...of sorts...I have now uploaded the pics from last year's Myth: Legends of Burlesque and Magic taken by Mayhem.
It was a fantastic show; truly there is no doubt about that. It was one of the best events that I'd ever been at during any convention, and I look forward to this year's. If any of the performers want larger and/or raw copies of these pics, let me know and I'll make them available. For everyone else...enjoy responsibly, heh.
